Betty A. Maynard

Betty Ann Perryman Maynard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully in Concord, N.H. on June 16, 2015. She was surrounded by her family.

Betty Ann was born in Albany, N.Y. on September 28, 1924. Her parents were George Albany Perryman and Betty Holland Perryman.

On November 17, 1945, Betty Ann married the love of her life, J. Douglas Maynard and together they started a journey that would last more than 58 years.

A talented artist, Betty Ann worked for both Terrytoon Cartoons and Parade Magazine. Her real love was watercolors. She and Doug worked together to establish Maynard Handpainted Originals. It was through her beautiful watercolor paintings and individually hand-painted note cards that she shared her love for the Maine coast and many of the European destinations she visited with Doug.

A lifelong summer resident of Ocean Point, before retiring to the home they built on the shore of Linekin Bay in East Boothbay, the Maynards also lived in Pelham, N.Y. and Chappaqua, N.Y. where Betty Ann was an active participant in numerous civic and social organizations.

Betty Ann is survived by her four children and their spouses: Betsy Maynard Lilley and her husband, Nathan of Rochester, N.Y.; J. Douglas Maynard Jr. and his wife, Lynn of Contoocook, N.H.; Martha Maynard Brisk and her husband, Charlie of Bedford, N.H. and Perryman K. Maynard and his wife, Kim of Southlake, Texas. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren

She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Doug, in 2004 and her brother, George Albany (Sonny) Perryman II in 2002.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Wilson Memorial Chapel at Ocean Point on Saturday, July 11 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty Ann’s memory can be made to the Hospice House Renovaion Project at the Concord Regional VNA, 30 Pillsbury St. Concord, NH 03301 or the Wilson Memorial Chapel, Ocean Point, ME 04538.
