Looking for the perfect Christmas gift for the aspiring thespian in your life? Or have you always wanted to try your skills out on the stage? Well, you’re in luck because Lincoln Theater is bringing our community a new adult acting class beginning in January 2024. Don’t miss out on this terrific opportunity to join former Broadway actress Frances Mercanti-Anthony for an eight-week scene study class, delving into the art of storytelling, developing a character, and more.

Over the course of eight-weeks, Mercanti-Anthony will pair students into scenes from plays stemming from the early 20th century to the present. With participants, she will discuss acting as the art of storytelling and delve into the craft of creating a character. Together, they will explore the concepts of truth, intention, and honoring the integrity of the text. This is a chance for amateur and aspiring Midcoast actors to flex their thespian muscles and play upon the stage!

Frances Mercanti-Anthony earned her BA in Theatre Performance at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and began her professional career in the off-Broadway company of “Mr. Marmalade” at the Laura Pels Theatre in New York City. She went on to perform in four different Broadway productions, including the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2012 revival of “Cyrano de Bergerac” with Douglas Hodge at the American Airlines Theatre, and the Olivier-Winning West End import “Jerusalem” starring Sir Mark Rylance at the Music Box Theatre. She was an original company member of the 2006 TONY award-winning Best Musical “Spring Awakening.”  From 2013-2016 she was the director of the theatre program at the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter High School in Center City, Philadelphia, PA. In 2016 she signed on to teach the acting program at the Rutgers University Extension Division High School Musical Theatre Academy in New Brunswick, NJ. She was the Artistic Director of Musical Theatre at the New England Music Camp in Sidney, Maine from 2017-2022. Most recently she appeared in Season Six of the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.” Since 2018 she has lived in Round Pond, Maine with her husband and two daughters.

Scene study classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 beginning Tuesday, Jan. 9 through Tuesday, Feb. 27 (8 classes in total). Enrollment is $250 and is limited to 12 participants.
