Candice (Howard) Prince, 66, of Boothbay Harbor died suddenly Aug. 21, 2016 at her home.

She was born October 29, 1949 in Boothbay Harbor to Elbert and Muriel (Greenleaf) Howard. Candy was educated in Boothbay Region schools and was a valedictorian of the Boothbay Region High School Class of 1967. She then attended Boston University and received a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude with distinction, in mathematics in 1971. She married William Prince on June 9, 1972 in Winslow, Maine. She then went on to attend the University of Maine and received a master of arts degree in mathematics in 1973. She received her master of science in computer engineering from West Virginia University in 2003.

Candy worked a summer at the marine fisheries lab in Boothbay Harbor. She later worked as an intern for NASA in 1969 when the first moon landing occurred. She worked for Union Carbide as a programmer analyst. She later worked for the state of West Virginia for the treasurer’s office and for the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways Information Services where she retired as information systems manager. She continued with miscellaneous consulting jobs in Maine and West Virginia. She retired to her family home in Boothbay Harbor.

Candy was an avid reader, and enjoyed knitting, photography, and volunteer work for the Charleston (West Virginia) symphony.

Candy was predeceased by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, William Prince of Boothbay Harbor; sons, David Prince of Charleston, W.V. and Matthew Prince of Boothbay Harbor; and sister, Heidi Howard of Florida.

A service to celebrate Candy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay.
