A Heartwood Theater - Lincoln Academy production

‘The Crucible’ opens at the Poe Theater Oct. 26

Tue, 10/24/2023 - 3:45pm

In what has become an annual theater highlight in this community, Heartwood Theater and Lincoln Academy present their 21st collaborative production in LA’s Poe Theater, Thursday, Oct. 26 – Saturday, Nov 4.  Under the direction of Griff Braley, a dedicated high school cast and crew of more than thirty is in final rehearsals, preparing to open Arthur Miller's “The Crucible.” This fast moving, deeply serious drama earned the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play and soon became a classic.

Set during the Salem witch trials of the 1690s, “The Crucible” is a timeless parable of morality, a scorching indictment of intolerance, and a central work in the canon of American drama. The story focuses on John Proctor, a young farmer trying to save his wife, Elizabeth, from false accusations of witchcraft. Their former servant girl brings an accusation that leads to the condemnation of several community members.

As always, the intimate, black box style Poe Theater brings the audience close to the cast – and the characters and plot straight into the audience’s world. Most shows are at or near sellout, for this powerful, full length production.

Six evening performances are scheduled for Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 2-4 at 7 p.m. in the Parker Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy. Note: Lincoln Academy does not manage ticket sales.

All adult tickets are $20, and students through college are $5, thanks to Student Ticket Sponsors First National Wealth Management and Peapod Jewelry. Reservations are strongly suggested, by emailing info@heartwoodtheater.org or phoning 207-563-1373.
