Democrats to host family lobster bake in Waldoboro Aug. 13

Thu, 08/03/2017 - 8:45am

Lincoln County Democrats are holding a lobster bake again this year, but are planning to combine the usual focus on lobsters, oysters and speeches with fun for the whole family. Mark Eves, former speaker of the Maine House of Representatives and now a candidate for the Maine governorship, is among the scheduled speakers, along with local party leaders.

The event will be held Sunday, Aug. 13 at Cider Hill Farm on West Main Street (no. 785) in Waldoboro, with the traditional raw oyster bar opening at noon and lobster or hot dog dinners served at 1 p.m., catered by Jeff Hurd of The Narrows Tavern.

New this year will be games that all can play, including a three-legged race, disc golf, sprinkler for the kids, and a tug-of-war for the adults. Other features will be “A Treat for Two” raffle of dinner for two at the Turner Farm on North Haven on Aug. 24, including a round-trip boat ride from Rockland, a quilt raffle, and a mini auction.

Perhaps above all, the event will be a time for local Democrats not only to have some fun but to get together to talk about working at the state and local levels to bring better times for Maine people.

Cost of the meals will be $35 for a complete lobster dinner, with mussels, corn, potato salad, coleslaw, watermelon and a soft drink; $15 for two hot dogs with the same sides; or a $10 child’s meal of one hotdog plus the sides.

Attendees are invited to help the LC Dems by volunteering to be a host or sponsor. The options are $100 to be on the host committee, or a sponsor at either the $250 or the $500 level. Host committee members get one dinner, sponsors two dinners.

Reservations can be made with a check made out to Lincoln County Democratic Committee, sent to Sandie O’Farrell, P.O. Box 336, Waldoboro, ME 04572. For more information, contact Betsy Wooster at 207 832-7746 or betsywooster@gmail.com.
