Facts, not rhetoric

Mon, 04/09/2018 - 6:00pm

    Dear Editor:

Wiscasset residents please consider these facts before you vote on April 17:

The MDOT has not tried to circumvent local laws; Wiscasset Historic Preservation Commission is not a zoning body; MDOT did not refuse to get a demolition permit, as Wiscasset does not have that requirement; the accepting of funds from a non-resident has not been decided — no agreement in place; MDOT has tried to work with the town, they have been honest and transparent.

This project will upgrade our infrastructure making our town safe, accessible, ADA-compliant and save local taxpayers in excess of $400,000; this project will help alleviate traffic back ups; MDOT, under State Law 4352, is not required to follow local historic ordinances; under state law, MDOT has sole discretion for decisions about state highways, which includes Route 1.

Please - let's drop this divisive, expensive and wasteful lawsuit!

Vote no to end the lawsuit on April 17 at the Wiscasset Community Center.
