Twenty years and counting! That is our slogan for 2018, as it was in 1998 when we opened our doors for the first time. It is hard to believe that 20 years have passed since we became not just a Parks and Recreation Department, but a Community Center.  Throughout 2018 we will be celebrating this milestone in many ways including giveaways and prizes, events and exploring our history over the last two decades.

Did you know that seniors can walk in our gym for free every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon? Bring your sneakers and a couple of friends and come walk in our climate-controlled, comfortable gym. Seventeen lapequals one mile!

Starting Wednesday, Jan. 24 and every fourth Wednesday of the month, we will be hosting “Coffee and Conversation” in our lobby from 10 to 11 a.m. We will have coffee and snacks so as you are finishing up pickleball or swimming or your workout, stop by for a cup and visit with friends before going about your day. As always, coffee in our lobby is available and complimentary each day.

On Jan. 10 we will begin our fîve-week series “Getting the most out of your iPhone and iPad” with Marita Fairfield, owner of Power Up! Each 90-minute session will start with teaching you how to connect to the Community Center’s WiFi and from there you will learn about the many things your smartphone or tablet can do in a comfortable atmosphere where there is no such thing as a dumb question!  Bring your iPhone or iPad. We will have a few iPads to use for those who need them. Cost is $15 for members, $20 for non- members.  You can sign up for all five classes for $60 for members or $65 for non-members.

Family stuff!

Starting Saturday, Jan. 6 we will be kicking off our “Family Movie  Nights” which will take place in the gym. This month’s movie is “The Peanuts Movie” with Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the whole Peanuts gang. We will have concessions, including popcorn, for sale. Bring chairs, blankets and whatever you need to get cozy! Cost is $2 per person and kids 4 and under are free. We open the gym at 5:30 p.m., movie will start at 6 p.m.

Winterfest 2018 is also right around the corner! We will celebrate this event on Feb. 2 and 3, complete with indoor and outdoor winter family fun! A full schedule of events will be available on our website and flyers will be sent to school in mid-January.

As always, don’t forget to stop by the Community Center and pick up our winter program brochure, and bring the kids in for a swim or some gym time fun!
