On Nov. 15 and 16, coastal communities in Lincoln County experienced a “King Tide.” USEPA characterizes a King Tide as “… the highest predicted high tide of the year at a coastal location. It is above the highest water level reached at high tide on an average day … (and) occurs when the orbits and alignment of the Earth, moon, and sun combine to produce the greatest tidal effects of the year.”

We were fortunate this year in that the King Tide occurred between 10:45 a.m. and noon on the 15th and 16th, permitting a terrific group of local officials and citizen volunteers to take photos documenting water levels along their communities’ coastal shorelines. From the hundreds of photos taken, the staff of the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission created a slide show featuring those pictures felt to be most representative of conditions during this year’s King Tide.
