Lincoln Theater launches Open Caption Wednesday matinee screenings

Tue, 10/31/2017 - 8:30am

Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta is pleased to announce that starting with its upcoming Wednesday Nov. 8, 2 p.m. matinee screening of “Stronger” (R), starring Jake Gyllenhaal, all Wednesday movie matinees will be shown with open captions (when available). “Stronger” is the inspiring real-life story of Jeff Bauman, an ordinary man who captured the hearts of his city and the world to become a symbol of hope after surviving the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Open captioning is a text display of all the words heard during a movie — very similar to closed captioning on your TV. Whether you just miss a single word, or you have hearing loss too severe to benefit from the use of assistive listening devices, open captioning can keep you from missing out.

Other open captioned screenings in November, in addition to “Stronger” (R), will include “Battle of the Sexes,” (PG-13), starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m., and “Victoria & Abdul,” (PG-13), starring Judi Dench and Ali Fazal on Wednesday Nov. 29 at 2 p.m.

Lincoln Theater is proud to be taking another step in creating an age-friendly community though the use of open captions on Wednesday matinees. Lincoln Theater is located at 2 Theater Street in downtown Damariscotta. Movie tickets are available starting one hour before show time.  Additional information can be found by calling the theater at 563-3424 or visiting the theater’s website at lcct.org.
