Lorraine (Lemay) Reed, 87, of Boothbay Harbor, died peacefully on March 9, 2018 at her daughter’s home on Southport.

She was born in Lewiston on October 28, 1930, the youngest daughter of the late Evangelina and Wilfred Lemay. She attended local schools and worked in Lewiston where she met Walter Reed Jr. Lorraine and Walter were married on April 8, 1950. Walter was a career Air Force officer; consequently, she moved their four children around the world to nine different homes in 16 years until they finally came back to reside in Boothbay Harbor.

In 1967, Lorraine and Walter purchased the Lawnmeer Inn. For 20 years Lorraine was in her element, making sure each guest and employee was well taken care of. After Walter passed away in 1999, Lorraine made Stuart, Florida her full-time residence. She enjoyed playing golf every day, entertaining friends, playing mahjong, and most of all the warm weather. In the summer of 2016, she returned to Boothbay Harbor to be closer to her family, where she resided until her passing.

She is survived by her four children, Judy Hurford and her husband Henry of Southport, Walter Reed III and his wife Liz, Kim Reed Upham, and John Reed and his wife Nora, all of Boothbay Harbor; nine grandchildren, Henry, Heather, Nick, Aaron, Andrew, Josh, Rachel, Lorena and Melissa; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Byran, Sheyenne, and Jasper; one brother, Frederick Lemay of Texas; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, her parents, four sisters, Dora Girourd, Rolande Clarke, Georgette Brushwein, Rita Brushwein, and two brothers, Richard and Robert Lemay.

Grandma, Nana, Mom or Lorraine as she was known was deeply loved and will be truly missed by all who knew her. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boothbay Region YMCA Dolphin Swim Team, P.O. Box 500, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
