At its meeting on Wednesday, July 26, at the Newcastle Community Center, the Lincoln County Republican Committee (LCRC) accepted the resignation of Gordon Colby from the position of chairman. Under the provisions of the organization’s bylaws, the LCRC vice-chairman, Dick Mayer, immediately assumed the position of chairman.

In his remarks following the action, Mayer indicated that he was honored to serve in the new capacity and would do so with a total commitment. He pledged that he would actively pursue the goals of stability and unity for the County Committee that has seen an unusually high turnover in leadership over the past several years. In that vein, Mayer said, “Our state and our party face significant challenges in the coming years. We can only successfully overcome these challenges by putting aside past slights and disagreements, coming together, and working to advance an agenda to restore our nation and our state.”

In terms of challenges, he cited the burgeoning national debt, the disarray in health insurance policy, an aging population in Maine and an absence of sufficient high quality jobs to retain young people in our state.

In terms of unity, Mayer said that the hallmark of any political party is the combined efforts of all of its members to achieve defined goals. He stated, “We welcome all those to the Republican Party who believe in smaller government, better and affordable healthcare and healthcare insurance, reasonable welfare policies, lower taxes and appropriate economic development in Maine.”

He concluded by saying, “We in the Lincoln County Republican Party must do a better job of letting our friends and neighbors know our principles, our values and what we stand for. We can’t cede the field to those who talk louder or assert that they have all the answers.”

The mission of the Lincoln County Republican Committee is to facilitate the election of Republican candidates throughout Lincoln County to municipal, county, state and federal offices. The LCRC meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month at a variety of locations as announced in the Lincoln County News and on social media.
