Maynard T. Taylor

Maynard Trescott Taylor, 81, of Westport Island, Maine and Largo, Florida, died Aug. 14, 2017 with family by his side at Winship Green in Bath, Maine.

Maynard was born Aug. 9, 1936 in Lewiston, Maine to Chester H. Taylor and Lillian E. (Curtis) Taylor.

Maynard grew up in Minot, Maine and graduated from Edward Little High School in the class of 1954. Shortly after graduation, he entered the apprenticeship program at Bath Iron Works and graduated as an outside machinist. After a number of years as an outside machinist, he entered into production planning, then on to the quality assurance department and retired in 1995. In all, he was employed at Bath Iron Works for 41 years.

Maynard was a true sportsman. He loved his two hunting camps and getting together with family and friends there. The deer hunting, bird hunting, turkey hunting and moose hunting were his favorite pastimes, along with skeet shooting and fishing. He truly loved nature, bird watching, etc. He loved gardening and watching his garden grow. He was also a skilled craftsman, building all of the furniture used in his kitchen along with bookcases, entertainment centers, beds, nightstands, etc.

Maynard always cherished his many camping friends and enjoyed going on trips to several islands with his dear friends.

Maynard was predeceased by his parents, stepsister Delia, stepbrother Roland, sister Elaine, brother Timothy and son Brian.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joan B. Taylor of Westport Island, Maine and Largo, Florida; son, Scott H. Taylor and wife Carolyn of Webster, New Hampshire; daughter, Julie A. Taylor of Wiscasset, Maine; stepdaughter, Lisa D. Sukeforth and husband Dale of New Gloucester, Maine; stepson, Scott O. Delano and wife Charlyn of Wiscasset, Maine; eight grandchildren, Susan Perkins, Kyle Taylor, Tyson Sukeforth, Kevin Sukeforth, Courtney Petrick, Gabriel Sukeforth, Aaron Delano and Brandon Delano; five great-grandchildre, Skyler, Arianna, Jacob, Hunter and Cedric; brothers, Mansell Taylor and wife Luanne and Brad Taylor; and sister, Althea Keene and husband Jediah.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick, Maine on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Cranberry Horn Cemetery in Harpswell immediately following the service.
