Midcoast Community Chorus seeks singers

Preparations are underway for the January 2018 concert!
Thu, 08/24/2017 - 7:15am

Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC) welcomes all singers, ages 13 and up, of all abilities – novice singer, new to the area, and former singers – to register for our upcoming semester in preparation for our January-2018 concert.  No auditions are necessary.  MCC consists of approximately 140 members who come together with a mission to “Sing as a community for the community.”

Registration will be from 5-6:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18 and 25, in the Fellowship Room of the First Congregational Church, 55 Elm Street, Camden.  Rehearsal will immediately follow in the Sanctuary.

Rehearsals are held each Monday evening from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. (with the exception of Dec. 25) until Jan. 8.  Rehearsals conclude in a concert on Sunday, Jan. 14.  Weekly attendance is a norm.  Parking is available in the church lot.  A semester fee of $80 covers the cost of music and rehearsal space.  Scholarships and payment plans are available.  For more information, visit www.mccsings.org or call 207-975-0582.

Newly appointed Artistic Director Steven Weston will lead the chorus.  Steven is a familiar face to many, having conducted the Jan. 2016 concert, June 2017 concert, and during his semester as interim artistic director in Spring-2017.

Sean Fleming, Assistant Director, will provide his talents as accompanist.  Singers will give voice to music expressing values of harmony, peace and justice derived from various cultures, traditions and musical genres.  MCC’s vision statement - “When we sing, we change who we are.  When we change who we are, we change the world.” – provides members with an experience of positive energy and community.

Experienced singers may be interested in the early-semester opportunity to join an auditioned chorus of about 45 members, the MCC Chorale, also under the direction of Steven Weston.  Chorale members will sing more complex music with a more independent preparation schedule for performance in the January concert.  There is a $30 fee for members of this group.

Coming from as many as 17 Midcoast communities, members look forward to preparing their many voices for an empowering experience at our upcoming Jan. 14 concert.
