State Rep. Mick Devin, D-Newcastle, received a perfect rating for 2013 from Maine Conservation Voters, a statewide environmental advocacy group.

The seven votes measured by MCV include bills to open the St. Croix River to alewives, improve the process for wind power development, label genetically modified (GMO) foods, study the impact of climate change in Maine, expand the Kids Safe Product Act, strengthen water quality protections for open-pit mining and establish a program for paint recycling.

“Maine’s economy depends heavily on the quality of our environment,” said Devin, a marine biologist. “Bills like these affect not only public health, but they affect our tourism industry. Our lakes, beaches and mountains bring billions of dollars annually to our state and support countless jobs.”

Devin is serving his first term in the Legislature and represents Bristol, Damariscotta, Edgecomb, Newcastle, South Bristol and Monhegan Plantation.
