Peregrine Turbine Technologies owner David Stapp confirmed Friday, he is considering leasing land at Wiscasset Municipal Airport for work he had been wanting to do at a Point East building.

“Delays in closing the sale of the maintenance building have led us to seek alternative sites for testing of the prototype engine core developed under US Air Force funding,” Stapp writes in an email response to the Wiscasset Newspaper. The newspaper asked after the town on Thursday afternoon released the June 6 selectmen’s meeting agenda with an item reading: “Peregrine Technologies, LLC lease discussion.”

Stapp explained Friday: “We proposed to the town to lease a plot of land at the Wiscasset airport near the far end of the runway.  They will be voting on whether to approve that lease on Tuesday night.  The town leadership continues to work with us to find a solution to our near and far term space needs and we appreciate that support.”

Selectmen meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the municipal building. The town has been asking the planning board to let it use parts of two Point East lots to make a new one that included the brick building Stapp was seeking. The planning board’s questions over road rights involving Mason Station have delayed a decision. Town Planner Ben Averill recently said the town had contacted Mason Station and not heard back.

Peregrine leased upstairs office space at the airport on Chewonki Neck Road, before moving to former Point East lots it bought from the town.
