HARBOR THEATER

“Kedi”  -  Hundreds of thousands of cats roam the metropolis of Istanbul freely. For thousands of years they've wandered in and out of people's lives, becoming an essential part of the communities that make the city so rich. Claiming no owners, these animals live between two worlds, neither wild nor tame - and they bring joy and purpose to those people they choose to adopt.  Plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 and Thursday, Sept. 28.

“IT”  -  Seven young outcasts in Derry, Maine, are about to face their worst nightmare - an ancient, shape-shifting evil that emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the town's children. Banding together over the course of one horrifying summer, the friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the murderous, bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise. This 2017 American supernatural horror film directed by Andy Muschietti is based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The screenplay, by Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman covers half of the King novel; a second film is planned.

Reviewing for Empire, John Nugent wrote, “More successful as a coming-of-age movie than a horror, It still ranks among the better Stephen King adaptations — no small praise indeed.”

“IT” is rated R (for violence/horror, bloody images, and language) and plays at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29,  Saturday, Sept. 30, Wednesday, Oct. 4 and Thursday, Oct. 5; Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2 and 7 p.m.
A word from Jason Sheckley: After 15 years, this is the final week The Harbor Theatre will be operated by The Boothbay Moving Picture Company, Inc, dba The Harbor Theatre. Starting Oct. 1, the theatre

LINCOLN THEATER

“Two Trains Runnin’”  -  In June 1964, Mississippi was a battleground; the Civil Rights Movement threatened to explode as the Ku Klux Klan used violence, murder and intimidation to keep Jim Crow securely in place. Simultaneously, two much smaller groups, unaware of the turmoil and each other, descended upon Mississippi with their own mission -- to locate and revive two long-forgotten blues legends. Playing Thursday, Sept. 28 at 2 and 7 p.m.

“The Trip to Spain”  -  After jaunts through northern England and Italy, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon embark on another deliciously deadpan culinary road trip. This time around, the Guys head to Spain to sample the best of the country's gastronomic offerings in between rounds of their hilariously off-the-cuff banter. Playing at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30; at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1 and Wednesday, Oct. 4; and at 2 p.m. Thursday,  Oct. 5.

“Maineland” (plus discussion)  -  Filmed over three years in China and the U.S., Mainland is a multi-layered coming-of-age tale that follows two affluent and cosmopolitan teenagers as they settle into a boarding school in blue-collar rural Maine.  Part of the enormous wave of “parachute students” from China enrolling in U.S. private schools, bubbly, fun-loving Stella and introspective Harry come seeking a Western-style education, escape from the dreaded Chinese college entrance exam, and the promise of a Hollywood-style U.S. high school experience.

As Stella and Harry’s fuzzy visions of the American dream slowly gain more clarity, they ruminate on their experiences of alienation, culture clash, and personal identity, sharing new understandings and poignant discourses on home and country.  A panel discussion will take place after the film with Lincoln Academy resident and day students.  Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.  Presented in partnership with Lincoln Academy.

Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague”  -  The night, a sell-out, 17,000 strong crowd witnessed an incredible live show of music from Hans’ unparalleled career, enhanced by a cutting-edge, immersive light show and award winning live audio production.  This concert film gives fans of Zimmer’s films  the perfect seat to see the musical maestro at work. Playing Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
