Every now and then a piece comes along that just fits … perfectly.  That is most certainly the case with Heartwood Theater’s upcoming production of “Eurydice,” by Sarah Ruhl, running April 27 through May 6 in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy.

Artistic and deeply moving, “Eurydice” is uncommonly exquisite.  (And if you think you’ve seen every set that could be imagined in the Poe Theater … you’ll be wonderfully surprised at this visual transformation.)

Nimbly moving in and out of quirky lightness, pathos and moments of raw emotion, Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus, through the eyes of its heroine, Eurydice.  With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists and gorgeous visual and sound effects, this play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.

Daily double rehearsals have quickly knit together a tight ensemble with four visiting professional actors and three Midcoast actors.

A small cast, immersed in rehearsals with such a rich script, has delved deeply into the poetry and truths of Ruhl’s work. Clifford Blake, playing the role of Eurydice’s father for the second time, notes, “This is my second time playing the Father.  The questions and meanings in this poetic play have doubled for me this second time around.  I think you’ll want to see it twice.”

Part myth, part love story. Out of time, yet timeless. “Eurydice” is a gift worth opening and savoring, one word at a time.
