U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary boating course: Suddenly in Command

Mon, 01/15/2024 - 11:30am

You’re a guest on a boat enjoying our beautiful Maine coastline. Unexpectedly your host, who happens to be driving the boat, is no longer able to safely get you home for some reason such as broken glasses, tripping and getting injured, or not feeling well. Furthermore, sunset is not too far off. What’s the plan to get back? You may also need to understand some basics about navigation lights (illustration attached) to help if it is getting dark.

Our course Suddenly in Command, offered by U. S. Coast Guard Flotilla 2-5 in Boothbay Harbor, prepares you for these types of situations by providing basic information needed to get you and others on board to safety. Course topics include: basic boat handling/docking, Rules of the Road,” communications, and accident reporting. It is a two-night course from 6 to 8 each night on Jan. 20 and 31 via Zoom.

Registration/information: The course is offered via Zoom, so it can be taken whether or not you are in the Boothbay region. Contact David Eastwood by Jan. 22 at 207-633-4748 or davidbeastwood@gmail.com to register or to get more information. The cost of the course is $30 per person and includes supplemental materials.
