The Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce met in its new office for this month’s Business After Hours gathering Thursday evening, June 14. The Chamber is sharing space at the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission building on Route 1.

Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Chamber Chairman Dr. Jean Beattie thanked Lincoln County commissioners, County Administrator Carrie Kipfer, and LCRPC executive director Mary Ellen Barnes for helping arrange the new accommodations. The First and Camden National banks donated furnishings.

The Chamber office is at 297 Bath Road across from Big Al’s, and staffed by WACC Administrative Assistant Pat Cloutier. It’s open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The telephone number is 882-9600.

Chamber members and visitors can pick up copies of the Chamber’s newly published 28-page Visitor’s Guide that includes a walking map of Wiscasset Village and a map of the “Museum in the Streets,” a self-guided historic walking tour of downtown Wiscasset.

Sherri Dunbar announced this summer’s Thursday evening “Alive on the Common” concert series. The free concerts on the Town Common start on the Fourth of July. The Dyer Neck Band is the featured performer taking the stage at 6 p.m. and sponsored by Davison Construction and First National Bank.

Other performers include Pan Fried Steel playing Caribbean music on July 12, and a blues performance by the Liz Lennon Band, July 19.

Dunbar said there would be no concert July 26 because a Wiscasset Art Walk was planned for that evening.

Three other live performances are scheduled for August and include Salty Dogs (oldies) Ron Bergeron (classis rock), and Junction 218 (Blues and rock).

The concerts are presented by the Chamber ano the Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Department. Other sponsors include Tim Dunham Realty, Ames True Value, Patricia Stauble Antiques, Norm’s Used Cars, Jen Spar, Montsweag Farm Restaurant and Carl M.P. Larrabee Insurance Agency.

The Chamber’s informational booth on the Creamery Pier has reopened for the summer season. Cloutier’s husband Russ can frequently be found there. Judy Flanagan, Nancy Roby and Rev. Josh Fitterling are volunteering as well, enabling the Chamber to keep the building staffed seven days a week.

Cheryl Rust noted the recent passing of William Cumming of Wiscasset. Cumming served as principal of Wiscasset High School for many years and also as Wiscasset Area Adult Education director. Rust said Cumming was a fine man who touched many lives in a very positive and meaningful way.
