Wiscasset announces July 4 events

    Wiscasset’s Fourth of July parade, themed “Music of America,” kicks off a day and evening of events.

    All applications for the parade must be into the town office by noon, July 1, according to the Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Department. You must pre-register to be judged, an announcement states; pre-judging begins at 9 a.m. Participants line up on Churchill Street. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and travels Hooper, Federal, Main and Middle streets. Applications are available at Wiscasset Community Center and the town office, Parks and Recreation’s programs and facilities manager Bob MacDonald said Monday.

    At 11 a.m. the veterans’ memorial salute and flag-raising will take place on the waterfront. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wiscasset Yacht Club hosts a strawberry shortcake social. At 12 p.m., the parade winners will be announced at the yacht club.

    The fireworks show, “Fireworks over the Sheepscot,” is set for 9 p.m.
