Thu, 03/02/2017 - 7:15am

To honor Women’s History Month, the Wiscasset Public Library is hosting a talk on women in the American Civil War, by Colby history professor Dr. Elizabeth D. Leonard.

The talk begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at the library on 21 High Street in Wiscasset.

Women played major roles in both Civil War armies: they supplied clothes, food, nursing and even doctors, messengers, spies, and, disguised as men, soldiers.

Dr. Leonard is the author of several books, including her most recent work, “Lincoln’s Forgotten Ally: Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt of Kentucky,” which won the 2012 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize.

The talk is free. Light refreshments will be served.
