Leave storefront parking

Mon, 11/06/2017 - 3:00pm

Dear Editor:

Three women, in our early 70s, ready to drive out of your charming town ... then we stopped, because we saw a parking spot in front of the shops.

We spent over an hour in the art gallery, the antique gallery and clothing store.  Time we'd never have taken if we'd had to trek up the hill from a parking garage.

Besides the convenience provided by on-street slots, some irreplaceable visual appeal of your village is going to be lost if you widen Main Street. We three (who spent money in your shops) are from a once-charming Texas town. But thanks to “progress,” Austin is barely recognizable to us now.

Build the garage on Water Street for the young folks. But please leave storefront parking for us eager shoppers with aging backs, knees and hips.
