Tue, 11/07/2017 - 5:00pm

Fine antiques and decorative items from the collections of two prominent Wiscasset residents - Richard French and the late Richard Thompson - will be sold at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17,  the first day of their Fall Weekend Auction Event. The Friday auction will include a selection over 500 incredibly diverse items, all to be sold unreserved.

A life-long lover of Maine, Wiscasset antique dealer and collector Richard French is now downsizing and has consigned his shop stock and many of his personal pieces to auction.

Musician Richard Thompson, who passed away on May 11, 2017, retired to Wiscasset after a career that included playing professionally with New York’s Metropolitan Opera Company, management positions in the travel industry, and supporting many community projects. Items from his estate will be sold to benefit the Metropolitan Opera.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to handle these great Maine collections. Everyone will find something to love in this exciting sale,” said Thomaston Place owner and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux.

The items to be sold on Saturday and Sunday (starting at 11 a.m. each day) will comprise a veritable feast of outstanding art (including one by Andrew Wyeth), antiques and decorative items harvested from estates and collections from throughout Maine and Northern New England.

There will be large groupings of important paintings, fine watches and clocks - including an early 19th century mahogany tall case clock by Asa Wilkens of Wiscasset (active 1810-1832); rare Americana, Russian masterworks, early weaponry, jewelry. fine antique and designer furniture, Asian items, and African, Oceanic, and Native American artifacts. And,  a low mileage single owner 2014 Subaru Outback 2.5i automobile. A complete, full color catalog, with detailed descriptions and photographs, is available, and all lots can be viewed at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ website, www.thomastonauction.com.

In addition to live bidding in the auction hall, Thomaston Place accepts bids via absentee, telephone, and on the internet (via Thomaston Live, Invaluable, or Live Auctioneers).
