2 ‘critical,’ 2 others hospitalized after Bowdoin crash in snow squall

On Saturday, Feb. 17 at 4:08 p.m., Sagadahoc County deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 201 in Bowdoin near the intersection of Doughty Road. First responders also included Topsham and Richmond Police, Bowdoin Fire, Bowdoinham Fire, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Richmond EMS and Lisbon EMS.

The initial investigation shows that a 2011 Jeep driven by Robyn Creighton, 20, from Bowdoin was traveling south on Route 201 and lost control of her vehicle during a heavy snow squall, crossed over the centerline and struck a 2023 GMC traveling northbound.  A 17-year-old was a front seat passenger in the Jeep. Robyn Creighton was taken to Central Maine Medical Center and is in stable condition. The passenger was taken to Maine Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

The 2023 GMC was being driven by Michael Fitzmaurice, 87, also of Bowdoin. His passenger was his wife, 85-year-old Harriet Fitzmaurice. Both were taken to Maine Medical Center and are listed in critical condition.

The accident is being investigated by Cpl. Ian Alexander of Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office. The preliminary cause of the accident appears to be weather-related.  

The crash is being reconstructed by members of Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office, assisted by Brunswick Police Department.
