When they head out on the road to tour as a duo, vocalist Lara Tupper and Bobby Sweet, on guitar and vocals, present spirited interpretations of folk/pop standards and Bobby’s original Americana songs. Bobby, who toured with Arlo Guthrie for many years, is an award-winning singer-songwriter with seven albums. Lara, born in Boothbay, has performed all over the world as a resident vocalist in Hilton Hotels International. With their rich harmonies and natural stage presence, they have a special way of connecting with listeners. On Saturday, April 27, this duo comes to Boothbay Harbor to perform at the historic Opera House.

Tupper is the author of three books: “Amphibians,” a short story collection and Leapfrog Global Fiction Award winner, “Off Island,” a fictional re-imagining of Paul Gauguin's travels (finalist, Housatonic Book Award; Encircle, 2020) and “A Thousand and One Nights,” an autobiographical novel about singers at sea. With filmmaker Greg Eismin she co-wrote the screenplay adaptation for “A Thousand and One Nights.” A graduate of the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, she taught at Rutgers University for many years and she is also a jazz/folk singer who has traveled the world; her latest album is “This Dance.”

Sweet has shared the bill with many top country and folk artists, including Vince Gill, Bill Staines, Martin Sexton, Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Jonathan Edwards. As a sought-after lead guitarist he has played shows opening for George Jones, Diamond Rio, Asleep at the Wheel, Willie Nelson, The Bellamy Brothers, Waylon Jennings, and many others. He’s performed at Carnegie Hall, the New Orleans Jazz Fest, and on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion among many other landmark venues. Bobby has written songs that have aired on hit television series including “Nashville,” “Touched By An Angel,” “Walker Texas Ranger,” “Soul Food,” “Judging Amy,” and “Brotherhood.”
