Class of 2018’s ‘Top Scholars’

Wiscasset Middle High School is proud to announce that the following members of the Class of 2018 have earned the distinction of “Top Scholars.” To be recognized as a Top Scholar, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. They are listed alphabetically.

Vanessa Dunn has balanced participation in a wide range of activities while maintaining a high level of academic achievement during her years at WMHS. She is a member of the National Honor Society and, as a junior, she received the Williams College Book Award for demonstrating intellectual leadership and significantly contributing to the extracurricular life of the school. She has been a class officer and on the Student Council for all four years of high school. This year she has been Student Council President.

Vanessa has been the captain of the Cheerleading Team and coached Youth Cheerleading (K-2) for four years, played tennis and soccer, and has been the captain of the soccer team her senior year. She has also been a member of the Drama Club, Prom Committee, Yearbook Staff as well as Band, Jazz Band, and Chorus. She has been accepted by All State Chorus and District Honors and, this year, received the Sheepscot Chorus Music Award. Vanessa is the daughter of Michael and Lenore Dunn of Wiscasset. She will attend Wheaton College in Norton, MA, and major in Sports Psychology.

Clara Mugnai has received numerous awards for high academic achievement during her years at WMHS and participated in many extracurricular activities. She is President of the National Honor Society this year and has been a member of the National Society of High School Scholars for four years. She has received the Maine Principal’s Award and, as a junior, received the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Achievement which honors a girl who excels in math and science and the Wesleyan College Book Award which recognizes students who have a rigorous course of study and are a visible member of the school and community.

Clara has been a member of Band, Math Team, the Outing Club, and the Prom Committee. She has played softball for all four years of high school and has been captain of the team for her junior and senior years. She has been captain of the Midcoast Maine Equestrian Team for four years competing year round in shows throughout New England.

Clara is the daughter of Kristen and George Mugnai of Alna. She will attend St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, and major in Biology.

Jesse Perkins has pursued sports and extracurricular activities while maintaining a rigorous course of study during his years at WMHS. He has been a member of Student Council for junior and senior years, the National Honor Society for his senior year, as well as the Math Team.

As a junior, Jesse attended Boys’ State and received The Rensselaer Medal. This award is given to outstanding students that excel in advanced math and science courses and demonstrate potential for success in a challenging academic setting.

Jesse has been on the Tennis Team for four years. He has also participated in Lincoln Health Sticker Shock, a program which addresses underage drinking in Lincoln County. Jesse is the son of Russell and Andrea Perkins of Wiscasset. He will attend the University of Maine at Orono and major in Computer Engineering.
