Patrol Officer James Fisher of the Wiscasset Police Department has resigned, effective Aug. 10, to accept a job at the Brunswick Police Department.

With his departure, Sgt. Craig Worster will be the only full-time police officer in Wiscasset, Fisher said. He will be assisted by administrative assistant Nicole Viele and four part-time reserve officers – Paul Rubashkin, Levon Travis, James Read, who also serves as Shellfish Warden, and Emily Christiansen – until the chief job is filled and the permanent patrol officer jobs and school resource officer job can be filled. According to the police department’s website, the department is staffed by “the Chief of Police, an Administrative Assistant, a Patrol Sergeant, a Patrol Officer, a School Resource Officer, two permanent part-time Police Officers, Harbor Master, Shellfish Warden and four Reserve Officers.”

Fisher, who had been on the job for a little more than a year, said in a phone interview, he considered the Wiscasset Police Department a good department.

Chief Jeff Lange's resignation took effect July 26, and newly hired Alan Terrance left at about the same time to pursue military service. Travis, who had served as harbor master, quit over the summer, too, but stayed on part-time as a reserve patrol officer. Rubashkin quit early in the year over uncertainty about the funding for his administrative position. He took a full-time job at Maine Pretrial Services, but also remained a part-time reserve officer.
