Matt Chapman of Wiscasset Middle High School is among the 2019 recipients of Maine Principals Association’s Principal’s Award. WMHS Principal Charles Lomonte made the announcement at Tuesday night’s school committee meeting. He introduced Chapman who received a round of applause.

Lomonte explained a principal can nominate just one graduating student from their high school. “Among the criteria ...  is the student must demonstrate leadership, scholarship and citizenship. Matt has demonstrated all of those, leadership in particular serving as president of his senior class,” he said.

Lomonte and Chapman attended the awards ceremony and luncheon banquet Saturday, April 6 in Brewer. All the nominees got plaques and lapel pins.

Chapman won the state C title in the 110-meter hurdles in 2018. He is a leader on the track team, was a starter on the Wolverine soccer and basketball teams, and has been involved in many other extracurricular activities including the school play.

MPA established the Principal’s Award in 1984.
