Skidompha Library’s Chats with Champions program welcomes Elizabeth Garber and Baron Wormser, both noted poets and authors Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. Please allow time for parking.

This past spring, poet Baron Wormser published a book of portraits, “Legends of a Slow Explosion: 11 Modern Lives,” about people from the mid-20th century whose lives created ripple effects beyond their individuality, including electrifying portraits of Rosa Parks, Hannah Arendt, Miles Davis, Audrey Hepburn, and Willem de Kooning, among others.

Poet Elizabeth Garber published “Implosion: A Memoir of an Architect’s Daughter.” Her memoir delves into the life of visionary architect Woodie Garber and the collision of forces in the turbulent 1970’s that caused his family to collapse. This haunting memoir describes her father’s descent into madness and follows Elizabeth’s inspiring journey to emerge from her abuse and go on to become a loving mother and a healer who helps others.

Baron and Elizabeth will give a joint reading/discussion on the ages of Modernism. They will read from their books and talk about what the modernism of the second half of the twentieth century was about, particularly on a personal, individual level.
