Oktoberfest at First Congregational Church, Wiscasset Oct. 14

Fri, 10/06/2017 - 7:00am

Following in the tradition of the annual 16-day festival held in Munich, Germany since 1810, the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset will celebrate Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with German bratwurst and sauerkraut on the menu.

Hot dogs, chips and soda will be also be available along with pumpkins, freshly picked apples, pies, cakes, cookies, and breads. In addition, there will be the popular “yard sale” table and the Organ Society’s collection of hand knit mittens, hat and other crafts for sale. The popular church cookbook, “Recipes from the Church on the Common” will be offered at a special discount for one day — $10 instead of the usual $12. Activities for the children will include pumpkin-decorating.

The proceeds from Oktoberfest will fund church programs, unlike Summerfest which raises funds for community organizations in need.  Those funds, over $6,000 raised this past summer, will be distributed this fall to a variety of non-profit groups in the area.

The Oktoberfest Committee invites the community to take advantage of the opportunity to partake of authentic German food in this celebration of fall and its bounty.
