Rising Tide partners with UPSTREAM to address plastics waste

Rising Tide Co-op in Damariscotta at 323 Main St. in Damariscotta is seeking participants to join in our efforts to “Shift the Tide,” our sustainability campaign that allows our staff, members and community partners in a diversified waste reduction program that includes offsetting energy costs, reducing single-use plastics and diverting waste from landfills.

We are building stronger relationships with other organizations and businesses that help us support this mission, such as Damariscotta’s very own UPSTREAM, a nonprofit working nationally to change how businesses use plastic. Matt Prindiville, executive director of UPSTREAM, will be conducting a “plastic audit” at the co-op to help craft innovative, simple solutions to cut back on single-use plastics.

This isn’t the first time UPSTREAM has partnered with Rising Tide Co-op. Earlier this year, the two helped host a free community screening of an ocean plastics documentary called Smog of the Sea on Jan. 30 at the Lincoln County Theater. In addition to Damariscotta River Association and the Natural Resources Council of Maine, representatives from each organization helped facilitate an informational panel that helped inspire this week’s plastics audit. Rising Tide Co-op is thankful for Prindiville’s willingness to give back to UPSTREAM's hometown community with our plastics audit.
