Harbor Theater is the Boothbay peninsula’s non-profit, independent cinema, with a mission to save and sustain the movie house as a community asset. Over the winter, the theater has shown first-run films, documentaries, independent films, and a month of Oscar nominees. During the summer, when kids are out of school and families are here on vacation, the theater will show all the big summer movies, with a few special film events each month.

The summer movie season starts with a cosmic bang on Thursday, May 24 with an opening night screening of “Solo, A Star Wars Story” at 7 p.m. Wear your Star Wars costume and tell your friends the next day you saw it before anyone else!  The lineup continues with the “Incredibles 2,” starting June 15, and “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” opening July 6. “Mamma Mia” comes later in August.

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story,' an adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes. Starring Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Jon Favreau. (PG-13, 2 hours, 15 minutes) The film continues Friday, May 25-31 at 7 p.m. and a Sunday, May 27 matinee at 2 p.

“Incredibles 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the 2004 film about everybody’s favorite family of superheroes is finally here – but this time Mrs. Incredible/Helen Parr (Elastigirl) is in the spotlight, out saving the world, while Mr. Incredible/Bob Parr stays at home with Violet and Dash to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all “incredible.” Voices of Holly Hunter, Craig Nelson, Sophia Bush, Isabella Rossellini, and writer and director Brad Bird himself.

Following that is the next big Marvel movie, “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” opening July 6. In this new chapter in the series featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink, Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the Ant-Man suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past. And the mystery of how the mother, Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), escapes from the Quantum Realm will remain a mystery until it’s revealed on screen.

All summer movies will be shown daily at 7 p.m., with a matinee on Sundays at 2 p.m Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children under 18, with a $2 discount for members’ tickets. Ask for a membership form at the ticket desk just inside the lobby door.
