Lincoln County Historical Association (LCHA) once again offers summer day camp sessions at its historic sites. Three week-long sessions are open to children ages 7 through 11. Each session will be held at a different site: the 1754 Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta (June 25-29), the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden (July 9-13), and the 1811 Old Jail in Wiscasset (August 6-10).

The children will be introduced to each site’s unique history and enjoy a variety of art projects and games popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The activities have been chosen to give today’s children an introduction to the past and an opportunity to experience a few of the ways young people spent their time over 200 years ago. The activities vary, depending on the historic site. One project will be to make fire-fighting buckets styled on those those used in the later 18th century and early 19th century. The program supports summer reading, too. Each child will choose an historical theme book to borrow and read at home.

Summer with the Past was created by Louise Miller, coordinator of Lincoln County Historical Association’s Education Outreach program. The Education Outreach program’s goal is to provide children with a greater understanding of the unique history of this part of New England.
