“The Mustang” - Roman (Matthias Schoenaerts), a convict in a rural Nevada prison who struggles to escape his violent past, is required to participate in an "outdoor maintenance" program as part of his state-mandated social rehabilitation. Spotted by a no-nonsense veteran trainer (Bruce Dern) and helped by an outgoing fellow inmate and trick rider (Jason Mitchell), Roman is accepted into the selective wild horse training section of the program, where he finds his own humanity in gentling an especially unbreakable mustang. “Chesley Bonestell: A Brush with the Future” - (1 hour, 36 minutes) - Named "Best Documentary" at the 2019 Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival and Comic-Con 2018, this feature-length documentary focuses on the life, works, and influence of "The Father of Space Art," Chesley Bonestell (1888-1986), who inspired us to reach for the stars! Told by the many people who were influenced by Chesley Bonestell or knew him personally and punctuated with rare interview footage of the artist himself, the documentary compellingly chronicles the life of a quiet, artistic visionary, whose architecture and space art continue to inspire us to reach for the stars. “Transit” - (NR; 1 hour, 41 minutes, In German/French with English subtitles) - As fascism spreads, German refugee Georg (Franz Rogowski) flees to Marseille and assumes the identity of the dead writer whose transit papers he is carrying. Living among refugees from around the world, Georg falls for Marie (Paula Beer), a mysterious woman searching for her husband--the man whose identity he has stolen. Adapted from Anna Segher’s 1942 novel, “Transit” transposes the original story to the present, blurring periods to create a timeless exploration of the plight of displaced people. “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” - (PG; 2 hours, 22 minutes) - Thethird film in Lincoln Theater’s Stories to Screen Program: The Harry Potter films. Based on the novel by JK Rowling about young wizard Harry Potter’s adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter's (Daniel Radcliffe) third year at Hogwarts starts off badly when he learns deranged killer Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) has escaped from Azkaban prison and is bent on murdering the teenage wizard. While Hermione's (Emma Watson) cat torments Ron's (Rupert Grint) sickly rat, causing a rift among the trio, a swarm of nasty Dementors is sent to protect the school from Black. A mysterious new teacher helps Harry learn to defend himself, but what is his secret tie to Sirius Black? Saturday April 27 at 10 AM. Free event.
“Mountainfilm On Tour” - The show will explore the themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission: using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. Mountainfilm on Tour in Damariscotta is hosted by Friends of GSB and the GSB PTO in partnership with Great Salt Bay Community School. Sponsored by the Damariscotta River Association, Friends of GSB, the Newcastle Inn, Rising Tide Co-Op, Oxbow Brewery and Morning Dew Farm. All funds raised will go to support Great Salt Bay Community School’s new on campus Greenhouse. Tuesday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m.. Tickets: $10/adult; $5/students and $25 family. “Talking Art in Maine, Intimate Conversations” - One on one conversations between artist Jane Dahmen and notable artists and curators who have made a substantial contribution to the arts in the state of Maine. Guest artist, Jocelyn Lee recently moved to Maine and is using the Maine landscape as a backdrop for her nude portraits of women. She embraces what others see as vulnerabilities providing new perspectives on our notions of beauty and sexuality and celebrates the cycles of life and death in all nature. Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. Free event.
