Therapeutic massage at The Lincoln Home

Tue, 03/13/2018 - 8:00am

Join us Monday, March 19 from 3 to 4 p.m. to hear Patti Corscaden, licensed massage therapist, discuss the many benefits of therapeutic massage as we age. Patti will demonstrate how massage can play a supportive and nurturing role in overall health and well-being. Multiple studies indicate that just 10-15 minutes of therapeutic massage may provide many health benefits when received on a regular basis.

As we get older, our bodies benefit from many aspects of care and attention that help us live more fully. Massage therapy is an evidence-based approach that is safe and effective. Some of the benefits one can experience from receiving therapeutic massage are a reduction in most sources of pain, reduction of depression and anxiety, diminished nausea, better sleep and enhanced relaxation.

Reducing stress is another benefit of receiving massage. The stress hormone, cortisol, is reduced during times of relaxation while the feel good hormones and neurotransmitters like oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine are increased when the body and mind are in a more relaxed state. Massage therapy is a gentle hands on approach to support and nurture the entire body, providing a total sense of overall well being.

Corscaden, of Newcastle, is board certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork. She has over 24 years of experience and practice in a variety of therapeutic massage modalities. She is a 1994 graduate of the Downeast School of Massage in Waldoboro and serves on the faculty there. Currently she serves on the board of directors for the Society for Oncology Massage. Patti is passionate that safe, effective and affordable massage be available to everyone.

The event is free. The Lincoln Home is located at 22 River Road, Newcastle. For more information, please contact Rhonda Hanna, 563-3350, or rhonda@lincoln-home.org.
