Town Talk: ‘Christmas Tree in the Woods’

Mon, 12/11/2017 - 7:00am

The Wiscasset Public Library will host the next Town Talk on Wednesday Dec. 20 at 3 p.m.

A special treat for the December Town Talk will be Seaver Leslie and his Wiscasset cousins who have been invited to come and share the tradition of the Sortwell family’s annual event of “The Christmas Tree in the Woods.” Seaver and others will tell the story of how the Sortwells celebrated their employees and their families during the Christmas season. This included an oxen-drawn ride into the woods, a large Christmas tree, a serving of warm tomato soup and a handmade gift for the children. A book, “Christmas Tree in the Woods” by Susan Smith, depicts some of the details of this festive tradition.

Town Talk takes place on the third Wednesday of the month at 3 p.m. in the Library’s Fiction Room. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library. Come join in the Town Talk.
