Firefighters celebrated National Fire Prevention Week Wednesday, Oct. 10, with their annual open house at the Wiscasset Fire Station. Units from Jefferson, Alna, Wiscasset, Edgecomb, Dresden and Westport Island brought their engines and volunteers.

Wiscasset Fire Chief T.J. Merry said, from his memory, the open house goes back 35 years and probably further.

Jefferson brought its smoke training trailer. “That is always a favorite,” said Merry.

Youngsters stood in line to ascend Wiscasset's ladder truck.

The Alna Fire Department displayed the jaws of life, or extrication equipment, used to free occupants trapped in vehicles.

Refreshments were served. The traditional fireman’s boot was open for donations.
