Wayne D. Hardwick

Wayne Donald Hardwick, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Eagle Lake, Maine on Easter morning, April 21, 2019. He was born June 21, 1944 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine the oldest of four children, to Donald and Dorothy (Barter) Hardwick.

Wayne attended local schools and enjoyed playing on the baseball and basketball teams. In 1961 he married Esther Townsend and had four children. Wayne taught them to to fish, hunt and enjoy camp life and was also their Little league and Babe Ruth league coach. When grandchildren came along he was a large part of their lives too, laughing at their antics.

For over 20 years he enjoyed his favorite line of work as a self-employed lobster fisherman. In 1986, he and his wife purchased Big Houston Pond Camps which they operated with their son Dennis. Wayne and Dennis were registered Maine guides and enjoyed many successful bear, deer and moose hunts. He also worked for both North Maine Woods, in the KI/Jo-Mary area. Where the family made many friends. Moving to Eagle Lake in 2005, he enjoyed retiring in a beautiful setting.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents, and sister Joan Pinkham. Surviving are his wife of 57 years; sons Wayne G. and his wife Beth, Steve and his wife Holly; Elaine and her husband Will Plummer; and youngest and third son, Dennis.

Close to his heart were his four grandchildren, Steven, Bill, Jason and Rachel. Plus four great grandchildren. He leaves a special sister, Sandra Behringer of Virginia, and his only brother Dean of Los Angeles, California. Family is everything.

Wayne’s wishes were to be cremated with no funeral and no donations.
