Westport Column: Thanksgiving pies and more

Sat, 11/18/2017 - 7:00am

    Hello friends and neighbors!

Westport Island is preparing for its annual “Old Fashioned Christmas” scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Historic Westport Church. As always, the celebration begins with traditional Christmas music sung by a community choir and the congregation, accompanied on piano by music director Jim Swist. This year there will also be a “children’s choir” in the program! (If your child has not yet signed up for the single choir rehearsal on Saturday, Dec. 2, please contact Bobbie Newberg at 882-4742).

After the program, there will be a Christmas Tree Lighting outside along with a few more carols. Refreshments and fellowship follow next door in the Old Town Hall. (The word is out that Santa is planning a visit again this year!) Please join the Westport community in welcoming the Christmas season by helping to share some joy on December 3. Thanks to The First (National Bank) for sponsoring this event.

If you are still in need of a last minute pie for Thanksgiving, you might be able to get one at Nita Greenleaf’s Pie Sale at the Bath Senior Center from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Pies are generally $12, though pecan pie is $15. Call Nita (882-7139) to place an order or to get more details.

This year I am particularly thankful that we have a generator! What are you thankful for? Wherever you find yourself, I hope you will pause for a moment of gratitude on Thanksgiving. Contact your newshound pat-dick@midcoast.com or call 231-4049.
