WMHS holds STEM open house

Students and teachers came together April 9 to show the public their accomplishment at the second annual STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering and Mathematics) Night at Wiscasset Middle High School.

“It is the kids that are running this,” said program organizer  and teacher Prema Long. Demonstrations included robotics, computer games, chemistry experiments, microscope, 3D printing and making ice cream in a bag.

“I’m so pleased to have such a talented group of students and teachers to share their STEM work,” said Principal Charles Lomonte.

Sociology teacher and career paths counselor Mary Ellen Bell presented information on post-graduation opportunities in Maine. Chewonki Program Coordinator Emma Balazs offered an array of wildlife exhibits including a live tarantula. The public was invited to join in the demonstrations. A raffle and refreshments were provided.
