Wiscasset celebrated Halloween with costumes, plenty of candy, trick or treating, cider, donuts and other snacks, a lot of sugar energy, a costume contest and some warm coats over the costumes. The weather was cool, and toward the end of the evening, it started to rain.

Hundreds of excited children and their parents gathered at Wiscasset Elementary School to line up for the parade, a gentle walk down Federal Street to a block party spookily near the Ancient Cemetery, and called “Nightmare on Federal Street." Spooky music, such as "The Monster Mash" and "Ghostbusters," entertained the young crowd.

More to the point for them, there was plenty of candy. Each table had snacks – some healthier than others – and First Congregational Church offered donuts and cider.

Some of the young visitors has been to Nightmare on Federal Street before.

Addysen and Kamryn Petrie, 3, of Wiscasset, came as twin Bat Girls. They had been to both other Nightmares. Eventually, the donut they were sharing became more interesting than chatting with a reporter.Marie Glover, also of Wiscasset, celebrated the holiday by constructing her own companion. Glover and the Petrie twins won prizes in the costume contest.

The names of other winners were not immediately available. The weather deteriorated and several contestants left before prizes were distributed.
