Edgecomb Fire Department October report

The Edgecomb Fire Department responded to 17 emergencies in town and three mutual aid calls between Oct. 3 and 31.

On Oct. 3, the department responded to a medical call on McKay Road for a patient reporting dizziness and general illness. Emergency medical technicians recorded vital signs before assisting an ambulance crew in loadingthe patient for transport to a hospital.

On Oct. 6, the department responded to a minor property damage-only, two-vehicle accident on Route 27 and a false fire alarm on Fort Road.

On Oct. 7, EMTs responded to a medical emergency on Shore Road. The patient reported having severe abdominal pain and was evaluated before being assisted into an ambulance for transport to the hospital.

On Oct. 11, EMTs responded to a medical emergency after a doctor requested a patient on McKay Road be transported to the hospital. The EFD assisted in loading the patient into an ambulance for transport.

On Oct. 13, EMTs responded to a medical emergency on River Road for a patient complaining of difficulty breathing. EFD assisted in loading the patient into an ambulance for transport.

On Oct. 15, EFD responded to a medical emergency on Cross Point Road. EMTs evaluated the patient prior to assisting in loading the person for transport to a hospital.

On Oct. 16, firefighters responded to a Middle Road complaint about tree limbs burning on a wire. The EFD assisted Central Maine Power in clearing trees from wires. Firefighters stayed until the fire was out.

On Oct. 19, EFD responded to three emergency calls. EMTs responded to a medical emergency at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Eddy Road where a pregnant woman reported being dizzy in a car. Upon arrival, the patient was already in an ambulance and later was transported to a hospital. Firefighters responded to a Woolwich mutual aid call to fight a forest fire. EMTs responded to a medical emergency on Route 27 for a patient complaining of a low blood sugar level. The patient was treated by Wiscasset Ambulance Service and not transported.

On Oct. 20, EFD responded to two mutual aid calls – a Woolwich one for support in extinguishing a forest fire from the previous day which had rekindled, and a Newcastle call for a structure fire. EFD sent a tanker to the scene and also an engine and crew for backup at the Newcastle station.

On Oct. 25, EFD responded to an emergency call on U.S. Route 1 and Eddy Road for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters checked the alarm and determined the device was defective. EFD officials recommended the unit’s replacement.

On Oct. 27, the EFD responded to a two-vehicle accident on Route 27. Firefighters evaluated a driver and a passenger before assisting with loading patients for transport to a hospital.

On Oct. 29, firefighters cleared a tree from Route 27. Officials reported no wires were down.

On Oct. 30, EFD responded to various calls around town regarding trees and wires being down. Firefighters set up cones, barricades and detours and assisted CMP at Sunset Vista. Firefighters detoured traffic and remove trees while CMP crews worked on power lines.

On Oct. 31, EFD removed wires, trees and barricades on Route 27 and Eddy Road.
