The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit health care ratings organization, recently announced the fall 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and awarded Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick an elite designation of “Straight As” for its ongoing achievements in patient safety. Mid Coast Hospital is one of only 59 hospitals in the United States to be awarded an “A” consistently since 2012.

“Being recognized among the nation’s top safest hospitals is a reflection of the hard work of the physicians, nurses, and staff who achieve superior results by continuously looking for ways to improve everything that we do,” said Lois Skillings, president and CEO of Mid Coast–Parkview Health. “We are grateful for organizations like The Leapfrog Group who help us to measure these efforts on an ongoing basis.”

“We applaud all hospitals that earn an A for safety, a significant achievement. Mid Coast Hospital takes that achievement one step further by earning an A year after year,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient-safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Mid Coast Hospital is one of 11 Maine hospitals who also received an “A” this fall, three of which have received perfect marks since it started. To see Mid Coast Hospital’s full grade, as well as other Maine hospital marks, visit www.hospitalsafetygrade.org.
