New Year’s resolutions

Over New Year’s weekend, the Wiscasset Newspaper reached out to some public officials and others for their resolutions. Here’s what we got back by press time. Many thanks for the replies, and Happy New Year to our readers and advertisers.

Deb Pooler, Wiscasset: My New Year's resolution is to read more books! In this time of technology I often find myself doing things online when I used to be reading books during that time. Checking Facebook, reading email and posting to Instagram and Twitter will have to wait a bit so that I can once again curl up with a good book!

Warren Cossette, Wiscasset: Do what I can to promote TEAM Wiscasset!

Sharon Jacques, Wiscasset: I have learned a lot this year after losing my husband Corey tragically in July this year. There has been much sadness ... and grieving for my daughter and myself. There has also been so much love and support from family, friends and our Wiscasset community. With that being said, my New Year's resolution for 2018 is to give more ... live more ... and love more. I have learned through this process that there are so many other people who struggle every day and the gift of giving and kindness truly helps make a difference in someone's life. So I choose to do more this year. Life can take an unexpected turn ... it's what you do with it. The world can be a better place. Welcome 2018!

Lynn Maloney, Wiscasset: My resolution is a simple one. We moved back to New England in 2013 and have spent a great deal of time on our “move-in” ready house. It is finally finished. My resolution is to learn more about Maine in my “free” time.

Matt Norris of Sarah’s Cafe, Wiscasset: For this community, this historical, peaceful, beauty-rich environment, full of quaint streets, river views, nostalgia at every corner, hasn't changed a bit, but surely has kind of feel. This picturesque place at the head of a river that has seen enough to qualify it as a major historical waterway, we wish for this place, this place we all call home and our employees call their "livelihood" our patrons call their "vacation stop," this place the motorists call "hell." We wish for this place to come together. Come together, is our New Year's resolution.

Heather Wilmot, Wiscasset Superintendent of Schools: My New Year's resolution is to continue to find balance between work, family and personal wellness. I am going to work extra hard at giving up bacon, but I honestly do not like my chances.

Gaye Wagner, Westport Island town clerk: As Town Clerk my New Year's resolution is to make archival town record books
accessible to residents, genealogists and those seeking to learn and document our history.

Stacy White, Wiscasset Elementary School principal: My professional resolution is to continue to seek opportunities for community involvement within our elementary school. Wiscasset is a very special community with much to offer its youth. I hope to continue to foster positive relationships with stakeholders this coming year.
