Dear Editor:

To quote General Tommy Franks, “Don’t be stuck on stupid.”

That is what I think when I hear that our state’s Legislature has voted for the Popular Vote Compact. Secretary of State Shenna Bellows will tie herself in knots trying to explain how a photo-ID would disenfranchise Maine voters. Yet, giving away Mainers’ votes to New York and California is fine and dandy.

Our republic utilizes the Electoral College so even the smallest states have a say in our presidential elections. Circumventing the Electoral College in its present form would definitely disenfranchise all Maine voters.
