WMHS helps families with Thanksgiving

This year, the annual Wiscasset High School Turkey Aid became the first ever Wiscasset Middle High School Turkey Thyme, in an effort to involve all students and staff in the annual Thanksgiving community food drive.

All the families being assisted have students enrolled in the Wiscasset School Department. The event has been sponsored by the WHS Student Council for the past 25 years. Each of those years, it has partnered with the town of Wiscasset to meet the needs of the growing number of families in need in the community during the holidays. Students and staff bring in food donations to be used in putting together Thanksgiving dinners.

This year, some of the donated food will also go to help the recipients of the Wiscasset Outreach Food Pantry located in the Church of the Nazarene across the street from WMHS. With the assistance of their teachers, students in the seventh and eighth grades delivered food this past Friday by walking to the food pantry.

Nazarene Church Pastor Wally Staples greeted the students and was really excited to have the students make the delivery of the needed food items. The WHS Student Council will be delivering the donated Thanksgiving meals to the families in the community who have asked for assistance.

According to WHS Student Council Advisor Deb Pooler, "At WMHS we teach the kids to become better citizens in their communities so this is an excellent opportunity for our students and staff to give back to the community and help others. Also, as a newly established 7-12 school, it is a wonderful way for all of us to work together for such an important cause."
