Y-Arts Music Theater Camp presents 'Honk Jr.'

Sun, 08/27/2023 - 10:15am

The last summer performance by the Boothbay Region YMCA Y-Arts Music Theater Camp, "Honk Jr.," was enjoyed by large crowds in the gym at the Y on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 24 and 25. The performances were to be held at Camp Knickerbocker's outside stage but the weather forced the shows inside.

Thirty-three performers, under the direction of director and choreographer Emily Mirabile, acted out the story of the Ugly Duckling.

The story, according to Music Theatre International, is "Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be."

The lead performers were Gannon Inman as "Ugly," Fiona Bishop as his mother "Ida," and Jessie Ullo as "Cat."

The hour-long-plus play featured 13 songs and lots of humor.

Y-Arts will next rehearse and perform "Music Man Jr." Oct. 19 and 20.
